The value in $2 a review, what “approved” means, and other clarifications…

The response to our launch has been overwhelmingly positive which is absolutely amazing. We’ve kept everything so close to heart for so long that it’s great to hear everyone’s feedback on what we’re doing.

One vertical we’ve gotten a lot of exposure in so far is the blog moneymaking vertical where we’ve initially been compared to companies like PayPerPost, and ReviewMe. The first thing I wanted to clarify is that our model’s quite different, but in our opinion brings better results for both you and our partners in a few ways:

1) We don’t get involved in the product decision process of reviewers. This gives you the ability to be open and honest with your submissions, which is what future readers and our content distributors are looking for. Biased is biased no matter how much you polish it, and if people wanted biased then user generated content wouldn’t be as popular as it is today.

2) We want real, honest product reviews that other consumers will find value in reading. Think about it this way; if your close friend asked you how you liked your new car, or that cell phone you just bought, would you spend 2 hours giving them 10 pages worth of feedback on what you thought of every feature? No, and that’s not the type of stuff we’re looking for either. We want something that’s targeted, honest, and communicates the true experiences that stood out for you whether they were good, bad, or ugly.

So, after reading all that is there still value in $2 a review? Definitely! The $10 we’re rewarding for every 5 approved reviews is our way of extending a hand to show you why we’re here, and to acquire your participation in making our community a success out of the gate. When the site goes live at the end of the summer there will be ample opportunity to make much more than that for each submission through our yet to be revealed revenue sharing model. This will be possible with half the effort the “other guys” require while allowing you to be completely open, honest, and keeping your ethics intact.

Now on to what an “approved” review means since we’ve seen some comments on a couple of blogs that indicate concerns. With our business model being the way it is, we’re eager to monetize these reviews in ways that earn the most revenue possible both for you the community and ourselves as the platform provider. If we were to go to large advertising networks or e-commerce portals and offer them reviews that were skimpy, fake, or copies off of other sites, I’m sure you’d agree that we’d be shooting ourselves in the foot before we even got out of the gate.

On the other hand, are we asking you to write a 10 page article and then decide not to pay you for the hard work you put in? Absolutely not! We commit to never using any reviews in any way without rewarding the contributor through our payment models. If we don’t approve the review, we won’t use it and that’s our guarantee to you.

I hope this clarifies a few of the questions that have come up so far. Make sure you let us know if you have any other concerns since we’re here to work for you, not the other way around.

  1. Okay this is my second question and I hope you guys can help me out before I sign up. I’ve read in some of your pages that reviewers can review anything under the sun but you also seem to keep on mentioning “products.” Do blog and website reviews count as valid reviews? After all, online sites are still essentially products right? Or do you only accept reviews of offline products?

  2. gracemags,

At the moment we focus on product reviews. We have a set of over 200 categories that you can submit reviews in and we have been expanding the list throughout our beta.

At this point, we are not accepting website and blog reviews.

    Best regards,
    /Frank
